Love this write-up and you hit the nail on the head: Kindred is in the Trust business.
I worked with Kindred for a year helping them create their MVP and set up their initial project management flow, among other odds and ends. Hands down one of my favorite teams and products I've ever worked on.
enjoyed this and also the Blank Street piece! as someone who's been living off of short-term rentals / sublets for the past 3 years, I think Kindred is tackling a huge underserved problem. With that said, I find their strategy to cater towards upmarket customers who often own their own home, would want to pay for cleaning rather than just clean themselves, and in general have a higher standard for quality than I do.
It's so baffling to me that the best way for me to find sublets is via instagram stories where it can reach friends of friends, but it's a private network. I agree that trust is the key here because having a mutual connection is all it really takes to establish enough trust. That said, I think the Kindred approach is a bit heavy on bells and whistles, including fees. On the other end of the spectrum is some sort of open-source, blockchain thing or just something like Craiglist but not shit, but that may never come to life because it's a VC-backable model. I thought of building something in this problem space myself, but found that I can solve my own problem so for now it's just a passion / area of interest for me.
Such a cool idea. Makes me want to go to a local Facebook post and offer to exchange my home with someone's for a week. Thanks for the wonderful write up.

You can still use this service if you rent and the landlord lets you sublet.
In regards to the blockchain version of this, my buddy was experimenting with it: https://mirror.xyz/holon.eth/riSURpibflZH18aqTanbtUMmzhqc5xjmiAYM4tgOIZM
